The Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education held a scientific seminar on March 7, 2026, titled “Orientalism: Its Nature and Motives – Jewish Orientalism as a Model,” presented by Dr. Wissam Khalid Al-Darraji, with the attendance of faculty members and students.
The seminar explored Orientalism as an intellectual and academic movement concerned with studying the East, highlighting its various motives and historical development. It also focused on Jewish Orientalism as a case study, analyzing its ideological foundations and its impact on the interpretation of Islamic and Quranic texts. Additionally, the seminar emphasized the importance of a critical and scholarly approach to such studies to enhance academic awareness in Quranic and Islamic thought.
