The College of Pharmacy held a lecture titled “Human Health and Diseases,” delivered by Asst. Lecturer Abrar Amjad.
The lecture focused on human health and its relationship with prion diseases, which are fatal neurological disorders caused by the transformation of the normal protein (PrPᶜ) into a misfolded form (PrPˢᶜ) capable of converting healthy proteins into a pathological state.
This process occurs through protein misfolding and accumulation in the brain, leading to severe neurological damage. These diseases may be genetic, sporadic, or acquired.
Although some cases are hereditary, the disease does not begin before birth but appears later due to the gradual accumulation of the misfolded protein.
