The Department of Clinical Psychology at Imam Ja’afar Al-Sadiq University seeks to fulfill its mission through:

Vision
The Department of Clinical Psychology at Imam Ja’afar Al-Sadiq University aspires to be a leading academic and scientific beacon at the national and regional levels, dedicated to preparing specialized professionals capable of leading the mental health sector and actively contributing to the treatment of psychological and social issues in accordance with the highest scientific and humanitarian standards.
We aim to establish the department as a distinguished center for training psychotherapists, developing therapeutic programs, and conducting applied scientific research—contributing to the development of a more balanced, psychologically aware Iraqi society that is capable of overcoming the impacts of violence, trauma, and modern challenges.
Objectives
The Department of Clinical Psychology at Imam Ja’afar Al-Sadiq University seeks to fulfill its mission through:
- Offering comprehensive academic and practical programs that prepare students scientifically and professionally in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and individual and group therapy.

Who Can Register
Graduates of Islamic secondary schools, as well as students from the literary and scientific branches, are eligible to apply to the department.
History
The department was established in 2021, and the first batch (2024-2025) graduated.
Organizational Structure
1. Head of Department:
• The primary person responsible for managing the department.
• Oversees academic and administrative affairs.
• Represents the department within the college and university.
• Participates in preparing academic plans and course schedules.
2. Department Council:
• Composed of all faculty members in the department.
• Discusses academic policies, curriculum development, and research plans.
• Makes decisions regarding students, examinations, and postgraduate studies.
3. Faculty Members:
• Includes Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Lecturers.
• Responsible for teaching, supervision, academic research, and community service.
4- Administrative Secretary:
• Manages office tasks and administrative communication.
• Maintains student records and official correspondence.
5- Subcommittees:
• Examination Committee
• Quality Assurance and Accreditation Committee
• Student Activities Committee
• Curriculum Development Committee
Department Outcomes
First - Knowledge: Graduates of the Clinical Psychology Department are expected to be able to:
1- Familiarize themselves with modern and classical psychological theories in the fields of mental health and psychotherapy.
2- Understand the biological, physiological, and social foundations of human behavior and mental disorders.
3-Familiarity with psychological diagnostic tools and methods, psychological tests, and clinical scales.
4- Familiarity with international diagnostic classifications (DSM, ICD) and their criteria.
5- Understanding quantitative and qualitative research approaches and methods in clinical psychology.
6- Familiarity with the ethical and professional considerations associated with practicing the profession in individual and societal contexts.
7-Knowledge of local laws and regulations related to the practice of psychology in Iraq.
Second - Skills:
1- The ability to conduct clinical interviews and accurately diagnose mental disorders.
2- Apply measurement tools and psychological tests, analyze their results, and use them in diagnosis and treatment.
3- Design and implement individual and group therapy and counseling programs based on the latest therapeutic approaches (such as cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, and psychopharmacological therapy in collaboration with physicians).
4-Skilled in intervening in psychological crises and community emergencies.
5- Using scientific research skills in designing and implementing field and laboratory studies in clinical psychology.
6-Ability to conduct psychological assessments for individuals and institutions (schools, health care facilities, and communities).
7- Professional writing skills and prepare psychological reports for institutions, courts, or health authorities.
8-Effective communication skills with patients, their families, and colleagues in other specialties.

1- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and protection of patient privacy.
2- Respect for the cultural, religious, and social values of Iraqi society in clinical practice.
3- Promoting a humane approach to dealing with patients, avoiding social stigma.
