أهداف المادة الدراسية ونتائج التعلم والمحتويات الإرشادية

 Module Objectives

أهداف المادة الدراسية

Description: The course in biophysics relates to the use of principles and fundamental physics concepts in the study of biological systems.

  1. This course fosters the cultivation of fundamental thinking and methodologies that are essential to the development of an efficient interdisciplinary workforce.
  2. The main emphasis of biophysics is on the quantitative analysis of the physical and chemical aspects of the functions of biological molecules, organisms, and entities.
  3. The course bridges the physical and biological sciences. and highlights the various applications of the physical sciences to biology.
  4. Make the students capable of designing industrial projects to solve problems of biological complexity and resolve various health and environmental issues.

Module Learning Outcomes

مخرجات التعلم للمادة الدراسية

Important: Write at least 6 Learning Outcomes, better to be equal to the number of study weeks.

  1. The student acquires knowledge and understanding of how to build biological models to understand complex biological phenomena.
  2. Use simulations to understand and visualize particle trajectories.
  3. Use their background in physics and biophysics to evaluate novel biophysical scenarios and create or improve experimental approaches for use in these settings.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate content related to biophysics through the use of written reports as well as oral presentations.
  5. Examine biophysical scenarios by having both a conceptual understanding of the fundamental concepts of biology, chemistry, and physics as well as by performing calculations applying the appropriate methods of mathematical, theoretical, and computational physics.
  6. Applies knowledge in MATLAB training for symmetric random walks and vectorized operations.
  7. Understand the basic principles and concepts of microscopy and optics when seeing molecules.
  8. Perform and understand the interpretation of basic DNA structure and self-avoiding polymers, the role of applied confinement, and DNA sequencing methodologies
  9. Understand the basic principles and concepts of the cytoskeleton and its dynamics.
  10. Describe and understand a force in the biological world: the Brownian Ratchet
  11. Learn how to measure small forces in the biological world with tweezers and atomic force microscopy

Learning and Teaching Strategies

استراتيجيات التعلم والتعليم

Strategies

The main strategy that will be adopted in delivering this module is to encourage students’ participation in the seminars, while at the same time refining and expanding their critical thinking skills. This will be achieved through classes, interactive seminars involving some sampling activities that are interesting to the students.

Note: Marks Decimal places above or below 0.5 will be rounded to the higher or lower full mark (for example a mark of 54.5 will be rounded to 55, whereas a mark of 54.4 will be rounded to 54. The University has a policy NOT to condone "near-pass fails" so the only adjustment to marks awarded by the original marker(s) will be the automatic rounding outlined above.
